Here are some of the latests events we've had at the Church
A Christmas Cracker!!
On Saturday 25th November we held our first ever Christmas Bonanza!
Fun, games, activities and prizes with a festive theme were to be had plus a feast of Turkey, Pork and stuffing rolls along with cranberry or Apple sauce plus potato wedges!
There was also yummy hot chocolate, candy floss, Chocolate fountain and tea, coffee and mince pies were all included in our £5 ticket. There was a Christmas jumper competition too; lots of festive and colourful designs were on display, all wanting to win the title of best Christmas jumper 2017.
A beautiful selection of homemade cakes, crafts, jams & jellies where on display for our purchase. A fantastic and fun filed afternoon was greatly had by all who attended the Bonanza, finishing with a beautiful reminder of sharing the gift of Jesus this Christmas. A Fantastic event that also raised a total of £574 towards the Jubilee hall fund.
Community Information Day 23rd September
If you’d walked into church on Saturday 23rd September, you’d have been in no doubt that something rather different was going on. And you’d have been right!
Our Community Information Fair was in full swing and the room was buzzing. There were fifteen tables set up for exhibitors of all sorts, with advice and support for young families, older people, anyone looking for work or help with money management, and much more... You could find Citizens Advice Bureau, Age Cymru, the Family Information Service, Trading Standards, Careers Wales and other major agencies but also the chance to find out about some not so well-known ones such as Newport Low Vision Service (for people with varying degrees of sight loss), TOP (Tax Advice for Older People) and Newport Mediation (help with neighbourhood and family disputes). Something for almost everyone, in fact, and visitors were taking full advantage of the chance to solve problems and find out what was on offer.
The exhibitors were a lovely crowd. They’d given up their Saturday morning to be there but they were cheerful and pleased to help all those who came to them. Great feedback from them, too – they enjoyed the opportunity to spread the word about their services and obviously had a good time networking with the other agencies represented and, in some cases, our local councillors.
Those councillors, from both the Beechwood and St Julian’s wards, had their own corner set up just inside the door and did sterling work, chatting to members of the public and dealing with a variety of questions from them. They were just as good-natured as the exhibitors and they, too, told us they’d had a very worthwhile and enjoyable morning, which was great to hear.
There was a brisk and noisy trade in the TLC with refreshments and stalls for cakes, cards and crafts, while in the entrance lobby we had the whiteboard set up with plans and an artist’s impression of our proposed new Jubilee Hall. These attracted a lot of interest so Lynn Turner and our architect Mark Tutton were kept on their toes answering questions about the plans.
We were delighted, too, to have a visit from our MP, Jessica Morden, who brought her young daughter along. Jessica was lovely, as always – friendly, approachable and very interested in everything that was going on.
So I think we were all happy at the end of it – a very successful and lively event which seemed to be welcomed and appreciated by everyone involved. There were even requests to be invited along to similar events in the future... (By Lynda Strickland)
Children's Holiday Club - August
Every year the Church runs free of charge a Holiday Club for Children in the locality for a week in August. This year's theme was Seaside Rock based on the Bible story story of Peter. Each day was filled with activity & fun with Drama, Songs, Craft, Games and Bible stories.
Every day at least 60 Children came along, and over the week over 80 children attended across the week
The HQ team were involved with the Dramas & with helping with the running of the week
It was a fantastic week - which finished on the Sunday with a service in Church followed by a Barbecue and and Fun activities such as Bouncy Castles Face Painting and various games.
Over 30 adult voluinteers helped run the event, plus the 10 teenagers (HQ team). As always all helpers and adults involved (incluing the Minister) were DBS Checked, to ensure the Children's safety at all times.
A Big thank you to all who were involved
